Noćno kupanje

Carl Hiaasen

Chaz Perrone is probably the only undersea scientist who doesn't have a clue about which way the Gulf Stream is moving.

He is probably the only one who studied biology in order to learn better - to kill. Now he has found a way to pay for it - by falsifying water samples so that the ruthless agronomist-tycoon can continue to dump fertilizer into an ecologically threatened wetland in Florida with impunity. When Chaz suspects that his wife Joey has found out about the infernal plan, he decides to push her off the deck of their luxury liner into the dark depths of the Atlantic. But unfortunately for him, Joey won't die in the fall. Even before ex-cop Mick Stranahan saves her from certain death, Joey is aware that she didn't make the smartest choice of marriage partner. But instead of immediately going to the police and reporting Chaz's crimes, Joey decides to leave everything in the belief that she is dead and (with a little help from Mick, of course) – settle scores with him. And as she pursues her now-apparent ex-husband, Chaz's cold-blooded partners will grow restless at his ineptitude and somewhat whimsical behavior. At the same time, Mick Stranahan will discover that the six failed marriages and years of solitude he lived through failed to kill the romantic side in him. And we, the readers, will be in for a hilarious, suspenseful ride that only a writer like Hiaasen can provide – corrupt politics, environmental issues, and the complications of the human heart.
