Dieses Buch basierte auf der Prosa Ponižena ulica (Zora, Zagreb, 1950).

Dabei wurden einige, nach Meinung des Autors, ungeschickte Köpfe weggeworfen und der ganzen Prosa der Sinn gegeben, der zunächst beabsichtigt war, aber nicht konsequent umgesetzt wurde. Um den Lesern die Orientierung zu erleichtern, hat der Autor den Titel geändert, sodass diese neue Version den Namen Poniženi grad trägt. Der Text dieser Ausgabe ist endgültig.
