Vetrometine

Vetrometine

Howard Spring

The work rounds out the author's oeuvre and deals with the themes that characterized him: family, personal integrity, moral temptations, social change, and strength of character.

The main character of the novel is Alfred Reeve, a quiet, honest and unobtrusive man who lives in the background of great events. The novel follows his life over several decades — from his youth in England to his maturity in a time of great social upheaval. Reeve is neither rich nor famous, but his inner strength, consistency and moral uprightness make him a contrast to a world that increasingly values superficial success, money and status. The story intertwines the fates of his family, friends and colleagues, and especially the relationship with his son, who wants to follow a different path. The novel explores the clash of generations, disappearing values and the challenges of staying true to oneself in a changing world.
