Betty Zane

Betty Zane

Zane Grey

The thrilling stories of Betty Zane are well known throughout the United States. Many of these tales of her heroism in the Revolutionary War will be found in every library and many textbooks.

The story follows the Zane brothers: Colonel Ebenezer Zane, hunter Jonathan Zane and captive Isaac Zane, who lives among the Indians. The central figure is Betty Zane, a brave and fiery young woman of 18, whose beauty and wit attract attention. Her life is intertwined with romances, family duties and the dangers of the border. The key event is the siege of Fort Henry by 600 Indians and British: when gunpowder runs out, Betty volunteers to cross an open field under fire and retrieve ammunition from the family cabin, saving the fort and becoming a legend. At the same time, a love story develops between Betty and Alfred Clarke, a wounded soldier who arrives in the settlement, but their relationship is filled with jealousy, misunderstandings and the temptations of the frontier. The story culminates in intense fights, escapes and rescues, where the heroism of the Zana family confronts the harsh reality of pioneer life.
