Academician Ljubo Boban (1933–1994), a prominent Croatian historian, was one of the leading experts on the contemporary history of Croatia and Yugoslavia, especially the period between the two world wars, World War II and the post-war period. He is known for his thorough work with archival sources, his avoidance of political bias and his efforts to ensure that historical research is scientifically based, without adapting to current political needs.

In the foreword, Damir Agičić emphasizes that Boban is a model for how to write the history of the modern era: "Academician Ljubo Boban has shown with his work how a historian dealing with contemporary historical topics should research and write - such research and its results must be based on historical sources, and it must be written without politicking and taking sides in the past, especially not in favor of any current political group."

The works in the book were selected by Branka Boban, and include his most important texts from different periods. The book also contains an extensive bibliography of Ljubo Boban (pp. XXI–XXXVIII, edited by Branka Boban) and an index (written by Dora Kosorčić). It was printed with the support of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts Foundation.

This edition serves as a representative overview of Boban's oeuvre and contributes to the preservation and valorization of 20th-century Croatian historiography, especially in the context of researching complex topics such as borders, political agreements, and wartime events.
