Urota

Urota

Paul Nizan

The novel follows a group of Parisian students who are dissatisfied with the society they live in and want to change it.

Gathered around revolutionary ideas (communism, political activism), they plan a kind of “conspiracy” against the existing order. The “conspiracy” gradually falls apart more due to internal conflicts than external obstacles. Their plans are never seriously realized, and the revolutionary enthusiasm pales in the face of reality. Nizan depicts a generation that wants to change the world, but is not ready or able to actually do so. The novel is critical of empty revolutionary rhetoric and shows how great ideas often crumble against human weakness.
