Tamara Drewe

Tamara Drewe

Posy Simmonds

"Tamara Drewe" is a weekly comic series by Posy Simmonds that was published in the UK's The Guardian from 2005 to 2006, and was later published as a comic book.

The story is based on a modern interpretation of Thomas Hardy's 19th-century novel, "Far from the Madding Crowd." Tamara returns to her hometown near Ewedown to sell her late mother's house. In the meantime, she has gone from being an ugly duckling to a glamorous journalist. Her return awakens old passions in Andy, but also in Nicholas, who regularly cheats on his faithful wife Beth. Tamara, however, has a new man in her life, Ben, a rock drummer whose proposal she has accepted... The comic was also adapted for a film, shot in 2010, in which Tamara is played by Gemma Arterton.
