The novel's author's motto is "I've always found it strange that writers have to invent things, all you have to do is listen to people's stories, destinies, secrets. Do you know, my child, that everyone in our family has a life for a novel?"
The confessions in the novel abound in plots and climaxes, and most often end in a ballad. The novel contains a whole gallery of characters and their destinies.
