Plamen za visinama: Misli Sluge Božjega Ivana Merza
"The Flame for the Heights" is a collection of spiritual thoughts, writings, and meditations by Croatian Catholic layman Ivan Merz (1896–1928), a prominent figure in the Croatian Catholic movement and later a blessed figure of the Catholic Church.
The title “Flame for the Heights” symbolizes man’s aspiration towards spiritual perfection and holiness. Merz emphasizes that the Christian life is not passive but a constant struggle for moral and spiritual maturity. Merz sees suffering as part of spiritual maturation. Sacrifice and renunciation have meaning if they lead closer to God. Man is called to strive for “the heights”—spiritual growth, holiness, and a deeper relationship with God. True happiness and fulfillment are found in faith, love, and service to others.
