Dječije kolo – almanah za mladež raznih pisaca

The Children's Circle is a rare children's almanac from 1921, edited by Osijek writer and educator Rudolfo Franjin Magjer. It contains selected texts (songs, stories, educational essays) by several writers intended for young people.

Rudolfo Franjin Magjer (1884–1954), born in Zemun, and active mainly in Osijek, was a prolific writer, poet, prose writer and cultural activist. He initiated and edited several publications, and Dječije kolo is one of his editorial works aimed at children and youth.

The almanac was published in 1921 in Osijek. It contains a selection of texts by various writers — poems, stories and educational compositions suitable for children and youth. The format is modest, which is typical of the then cheap almanacs and calendars intended for a wider audience and school use.

Magjer sought to promote Croatian literature among young people in Slavonia with such publications, in the spirit of his broader work in education and culture (he was the founder of the Club of Croatian Writers and Artists in Osijek). The Almanac is part of a wave of similar children's and youth anthologies that were published after World War I, when efforts were made to create a domestic literary offering for children in the Croatian language.
