Povijest namještaja - ilustrirana primjerima Muzeja Slavonije

Danica Pinterović.

An overview of the development of furniture from the Baroque to the Modern period, illustrated with objects from the collections of the Museum of Slavonia. Through style, materials and function, the book shows how lifestyle and living culture changed.

Danica Pinterović's History of Furniture provides a clear and concise introduction to European stylistic eras with a focus on the Croatian context, especially Slavonia. The author traces the changes from Baroque and Rococo, through Classicism, Biedermeier and Historicism, to Art Nouveau and Early Modernism, showing how social habits and technological inventions are reflected in shapes, ornamentation and construction.

The book is illustrated with selected objects from the Museum of Slavonia: chests of drawers, display cases, chairs, desks and household items that testify to the domestic culture of Osijek and the surrounding area. Each unit connects a typological description (e.g. chest, sideboard, coffee table), the materials and techniques used (walnut, cherry, veneer, inlay, turning) and signs of recognition of a particular style.

The special value of the book lies in the combination of museological insight and practical orientation: photographs and short notes facilitate the recognition of styles in the family furniture heritage, while contextual comments explain the trade routes, local workshops and influences that connected Slavonian interiors with Vienna, Pest and the Central European circle.

Thanks to its clear structure and rich illustrations, the title is a useful handbook for collectors, restorers, antique dealers and anyone who wants to understand how furniture, from everyday life and formal salons, has shaped the aesthetics of the home throughout the centuries.
