Jevreji u Jugoslaviji 1944–1952: Kraj ili novi početak

Mladenka Ivanković

Jews in Yugoslavia 1944–1952 by Mladenka Ivanković depicts the renewal of the life of the Jewish community after the Holocaust, its relationship with the new authorities, and emigration to Israel and the preservation of identity.

Jews in Yugoslavia 1944–1952 is a historical study by Mladenka Ivanković that explores the position and reconstruction of the Jewish community in Yugoslavia after the end of World War II. Based on archival materials, official documents, and available literature, the author analyzes the consequences of the Holocaust, during which most of the pre-war Jewish population was destroyed, and the challenges that the survivors faced during the period of the creation of the new socialist state.

The book deals with the reconstruction of Jewish communities, the return and restitution of property, the social and political position of Jews, and the activities of the Union of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia. Special attention is paid to the attitude of the Yugoslav authorities towards the Jewish community, the organization of humanitarian aid, and the mass emigration of Yugoslav Jews to the newly established state of Israel between 1948 and 1952. The author examines the motives for emigration, international circumstances, and the consequences that this process had for the remaining communities in Yugoslavia.

The work represents a valuable contribution to the study of the post-war history of Yugoslavia and the history of Jews in this region. It is intended for historians, students, and all readers interested in the topics of the Holocaust, minority communities, migration, and socio-political changes in post-war Europe.
