Filozofija: Uvod u filozofsko mišljenje i rječnik
Philosophy: Introduction to Philosophical Thought and Vocabulary is a classic Croatian university textbook that introduces the reader to the foundations of philosophy and its terminology in a clear and systematic manner.
One of the most important and influential works of Croatian philosophical literature of the 20th century. Prof. Dr. Sc. Branko Bošnjak (1923–1998), a Marxist of the praxis orientation and one of the most distinguished Croatian philosophers, wrote this book as an accessible, yet serious introduction to philosophy.
The book consists of two parts:
- Introduction to Philosophical Thinking – systematically presents what philosophy is, its historical development from antiquity to modernity, the basic disciplines (ontology, epistemology, ethics, logic, aesthetics) and the main philosophical problems. Bošnjak writes clearly, critically and engagedly, with an emphasis on philosophy as an open search for truth and meaning.
- Dictionary of Philosophical Terms – a practical and precise overview of key terms, which makes the book an excellent reference.
Bošnjak’s style is lucid and humanistic. Despite his Marxist position, the author demonstrates a breadth and readiness for dialogue between different traditions, which has given the book lasting value.
This edition is still a standard textbook at Croatian universities and an indispensable reading for students of philosophy, theology, sociology and all those interested in the fundamental questions of human existence. An ideal combination of Marxist criticism and openness to other intellectual traditions.
