Die Schatten Schwester

Die Schatten Schwester

Lucinda Riley

After her father's death, Star uncovers a secret past and embarks on a journey to find her identity. A moving story of love, loss and family secrets.

Die Schatten Schwester (The Shadow Sister, 2016) is the third installment in Lucinda Riley’s world-famous Seven Sisters series. The novel is an emotional, rich and magical story about searching for roots, love and liberation from the past.

The main character is Star (Asterope), one of the six adopted sisters D’Aplièse. After the sudden death of their beloved father Pa Salt, the sisters each receive a clue that leads them to their true origins. Star, shy, sensitive and bookish, embarks on a quest that takes her to Scotland, to the beautiful nature of the Highlands and Edinburgh.

There she discovers a connection to a famous 19th-century writer and her family. Two stories unfold in parallel: Star’s contemporary search for identity and the historical story of her ancestor, filled with forbidden love, tragedy and secrets.

Riley masterfully interweaves the past and the present, creating a rich tapestry of emotions. Star changes throughout the novel – from a quiet and withdrawn girl, she becomes a strong woman ready to face family secrets and her own feelings.

Like the other books in the “Seven Sisters” series, the novel stands alone, but reading the entire cycle brings even greater pleasure. Die Schatten Schwester is a story about how light can come out of even the thickest shadow – and how sometimes it is necessary to go back in time to find ourselves.
