Kmukač

Katarina Zadrija

Collection of Kajkavian poetry

Katarina Zadrija is a poet from Vrbovec who writes in the local Kajkavian dialect. This is her third collection of Kajkavian poetry (after Povele rouža, 2018 and Narisana misel, 2020). She is the founder and president of the Osebunjek Association, which is dedicated to preserving the Kajkavian language and the native heritage of the Vrbovec region. Kmukač is a collection of poems written in Vrbovec Kajkavian. The title comes from the word kmukač (a type of frog – Bombina variegata, yellow mukača / red-bellied frog), which in the collection becomes a symbol of memory, homeland, disappearance and duration.
