Schatten über dem Mond

Schatten über dem Mond

M. M. Kaye

The novel depicts a love story set in India during the 1857 uprising, connecting personal destinies with turbulent historical events.

M. M. Kaye's historical novel "Shadows over the Moon" is set in India in the mid-19th century, during the great Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the rule of the British East India Company. Against the backdrop of political unrest, wars and social changes, a complex story of love, loyalty, identity and the clash of cultures unfolds.

The main character, Winter de Ballesteros, grew up between two worlds – the British and the Indian. Due to her origin and upbringing, she has difficulty finding a place to which she truly belongs. Her life becomes even more complicated when she finds herself in the middle of a rebellion that engulfs the entire country. At the same time, a love story develops that is put to the test by war, distrust and dangers that threaten from all sides.

The author describes in great detail life in colonial India, the richness of its landscapes, customs and cultures, but also the deep differences between the British colonial authorities and the native population. Historical events are not only the background to the plot, but also strongly shape the decisions and destinies of all the characters. The novel shows how war and political conflicts affect individuals, families and friendships, and how people in difficult circumstances face questions of honor, loyalty and personal responsibility.

„Schatten über dem Mond“ successfully combines historical novel, adventure and love story. M. M. Kaye creates convincing characters and a tense plot, while providing a rich portrayal of India in one of its most turbulent periods. The work speaks of the power of love, courage and perseverance, but also of the complex relationships between peoples and cultures.
