Slavomir Vuletin

A practical and cultural-historical guide to Prague from 1932 provides a detailed overview of the city's landmarks, cultural heritage, Czech history, and useful tips for domestic travelers and students.

The publication Prague (1932), authored by Dr. Slavomir Vuletin (a lawyer and publicist who himself received his doctorate from the Czech University of Prague), represents a valuable cultural-historical and practical guide to the Czechoslovak capital intended for domestic travelers, tourists and students. Published in the interwar period of strong cultural and intellectual ties between Croatia and Czechoslovakia, this edition offers a detailed insight into the city of a thousand spires.

The guide systematically covers the city's key landmarks and historical and artistic ensembles – from Prague Castle (Hradčana), Charles Bridge and Old Town Square with the astronomical clock, to the infamous Jewish Quarter (Josefov) and monumental churches. In addition to aesthetic and architectural descriptions, Vuletin introduces historical context into the text, explaining the development of the city through the centuries, as well as practical instructions related to getting around, city life and cultural institutions. Special emphasis is placed on the connections of our people with Prague, making the booklet an authentic testimony of the times and a valid example of Croatian travel and guide literature from the first half of the 20th century.
