Released in 1995 by ZYX Music (and Jive Records), the CD single Wish You Were Here by Swedish band Rednex is one of the most recognizable musical symbols of the mid-1990s. Briefly breaking from their trademark – the fast and humorous techno-country style made famous by the hit "Cotton Eye Joe" – Rednex achieved huge commercial success with this touching ballad, landing at the top of the European charts.
The centerpiece of this release is the title track "Wish You Were Here", an emotional composition carried by a striking female vocal, acoustic guitar and rich pop production that evokes longing and melancholy.
