I druge priče

Momo Kapor

An early collection of short stories by Momo Kapor from 1973. Through recognizable Belgrade charm and nostalgia, the author depicts everyday life in the city, youth, fleeting loves, and small relationships of ordinary people.

This collection is one of the early and extremely significant collections of short prose by the celebrated Serbian writer, painter and journalist Momo Kapor. Created at a time when Kapor had already established himself as an authentic voice of urban lyricism and an accomplished observer of Yugoslav everyday life, this collection brings a distinctive blend of nostalgia, elegance, urban humor and warm understanding of human weaknesses. At the center of the stories are ordinary city characters — young men and women in search of love and their own identity, bohemians, dreamers, clerks and incorrigible romantics. Kapor masterfully captures the inimitable spirit of Belgrade and the 1970s, painting streets, cafes, house parties, fleeting encounters and moments in which joy and quiet sadness overlap. The author does not strive for grand historical themes or heavy political analyses, but focuses on the little things: a view, unspoken words, the smell of autumn streets or the feeling of the transience of youth. His stories possess a pronounced painterly visuality, where every detail is carefully observed and easily transferred to paper. Written in a direct, flowing, and extremely enjoyable style, the collection "And Other Stories" represents pure enjoyment in short prose and testifies to Kapor's unparalleled skill in creating a warm, timeless story about human nature from everyday trifles.
