Doživjeti stotu

Doživjeti stotu

Bijelo Dugme

The 1980 album "Doživjeti stotu" by the band Bijelo dugme marks a major stylistic shift towards new wave. The Jugoton release features hits such as "Ha, ha, ha" and "Pristao sam biću sve što hoće".

The fifth studio album by the rock band Bijelo dugme, aptly titled "Doživjeti stotu", was released in December 1980 by the Zagreb-based Jugoton label. Led by author and guitarist Goran Bregović, the band made a drastic turn from the previously recognizable "pastoral rock" towards the more modern sound of new wave, funk, ska and pop-rock. Recorded in the Radio Belgrade studio with a changed visual identity of the band, the album met with an exceptional response from the audience and critics, defining new rules of the musical game on the Yugoslav scene.

The tracklist brings a series of anthological tracks that marked the era, including the opening energetic title song, the satirical "Lova", the critical "Tramvaj kreće (ili kako biti heroj u ova šugava vremena)", the provocative "Ha, ha, ha", and the legendary ballad "Pristao sam biću sve što hoće" with lyrics by Duško Trifunović. With its modern arrangements, including wind instrument sections and choirs, the album perfectly captured the spirit of the early 1980s.

The original vinyl release is also memorable for its innovative cover design by Mirko Ilić. Through three different variants of the front covers that formed a triptych, with the striking use of the motif of the older and younger body, the provocative spirit of the record is visually accompanied. "Doživjeti stotu" remains an unavoidable collector's artifact and one of the most important discographic achievements of ex-YU rock.
