Blago šibenskog podmorja

Blago šibenskog podmorja

Zdenko Brusić, Mario Jurišić, Željko Krnjčević

The scholarly and richly illustrated monograph by Z. Brusić, M. Jurišić, and Ž. Kručević, published in 2001, presents the underwater archaeological sites, ancient shipwrecks, and rich maritime heritage of the waters off Šibenik.

The book Treasures of the Šibenik Seabed: Underwater Archaeological Sites of the Šibenik Area (Blago šibenskog podmorja: Podmorska arheološka nalazišta šibenskog područja), authored by Zdenko Brusić, Mario Jurišić, and Željko Kručević and published in 2001 (by the Šibenik City Museum and the Croatian Conservation Institute), is an exceptionally valuable publication dedicated to the underwater archaeology and maritime heritage of the central Adriatic. The monograph provides a systematic overview and expert analysis of the most significant underwater archaeological sites in the waters off Šibenik—spanning from the islands of Žirje, Krapanj, and Murter to the mouth of the Krka River and the Šibenik Channel itself. Through text and a wealth of photographs, technical drawings, and archival illustrations, the authors—leading experts in archaeology and underwater research—document ancient and medieval shipwrecks, cargo remains (amphorae, ceramic and glass vessels, construction materials), and underwater finds dating from prehistoric times to the modern era. Beyond offering detailed insight into Adriatic trade routes and maritime life across the centuries, this work is of immense importance for the protection and preservation of underwater cultural heritage. Written in a style that is both professional and accessible to the general public, the book is an essential resource for archaeologists, historians, divers, and all enthusiasts of maritime history.
