The selection of works "From the social sciences" by Jovan Cvijić, published in 1965 (publisher Vuk Karadžić/Srpska književna zadruga, with a foreword by Cvetko Kostić), represents a representative cross-section of the authors' pioneering work in the field of social sciences. Although Cvijić was primarily a geographer and geologist, his scientific opus left a deep and lasting mark on the anthropogeography, ethnology, sociology and psychology of the Balkans. The book includes texts in which the author applies his well-known anthropogeographical methodology, studying the relationship between the natural environment and the factors of human society. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of Balkan migrations, changes in the population structure, the emergence of specific types of houses and settlements, and the influence of historical and geographical circumstances on the shaping of social structures. The author's work on profiling ethnopsychological types and observing the psychological characteristics of the population of Dinaric and other Balkan areas is particularly significant. Through these works, Cvijić explains how centuries-old movements, political pressures and adaptation to the natural relief shaped the mentality, customs and social dynamics of the people in this area, making this edition essential reading for understanding the history of social thought in the region.
