Lady Madonna / The Inner Light
The Beatles – Lady Madonna / The Inner Light, an original UK 7" release issued in 1968 on Parlophone (catalog number R 5675). It is one of the group's final singles on the Parlophone label prior to the Apple Records era and serves as an interesting document of the transitional phase between the psychedelic sound of 1967 and a return to a more direct rock style.
"Lady Madonna," a Lennon–McCartney composition primarily written by Paul McCartney, is built around a distinctive piano part and a driving rhythm & blues beat. The song presents the Beatles in a more energetic and stripped-back style, following the lavish studio productions of the Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour era.
The B-side, "The Inner Light," is a composition by George Harrison that stands in stark contrast to the A-side. Inspired by Indian music and philosophy, the track was largely recorded with Indian musicians in Bombay and marked the first time a Harrison composition was released on a Beatles single.
This copy features the original 4-prong push-out center and comes in a green Parlophone/EMI company sleeve from the period. The record is in exceptionally well-preserved condition.
