Put u Kongo

Put u Kongo

Andre Gide

André Gide’s celebrated travelogue, "Travels in the Congo," is a poignant and honest account of a journey through Central Africa, in which the author sharply condemns colonial exploitation and injustice toward the local population.

Putopis "Put u Kongo" (Voyage au Congo) velikog francuskog književnika i nobelovca Andréa Gidea, nastao nakon njegova putovanja Srednjom Afrikom u društvu fotografa i redatelja Marca Allégreta, jedno je od najutjecajnijih dokumentarno-književnih djela 20. stoljeća. Knjiga je pisana u obliku dnevnika i donosi autorova neposredna zapažanja, doživljaje i promišljanja tijekom višemjesečnog prolaska kroz područja današnjeg Konga, Srednjoafričke Republike, Čada i Kameruna. Iako je Gide na put krenuo prvenstveno potaknut radoznalošću i estetskim interesom za egzotične krajeve, susret sa stvarnošću Francuske Ekvatorijalne Afrike duboko ga je potresao. Autor s iznimnom književnom snagom i etičkom odgovornošću razotkriva surovost kolonijalnog sustava, robovski rad, zlouporabe privatnih koncesijskih društava te sustavno ponižavanje i eksploataciju domorodačkog stanovništva. Njegova oštra i beskompromisna kritika izazvala je u vrijeme objavljivanja snažne političke odjeke i rasprave u Francuskoj, potaknuvši reforme kolonijalne politike. "Put u Kongo" nije samo dragocjen putopisni zapis bogat opisima prirode i kulture, već i snažan humanisticki protest protiv nepravde te važno svjedočanstvo o borbi za ljudsko dostojanstvo.
