Zagor LU #143: Mortimerov povratak

Mortimerov povratak continues a conspiracy that threatens Zagor on several fronts. Mortimer and the mysterious Weaver combine their schemes, using threats and distractions to leave their opponent without an easy choice of action.

Chico’s kidnapping makes the danger intensely personal, while an assassination attempt is being prepared against gubernatorial candidate Marvin Sykes. Rescuing a friend and preventing a political murder become interconnected responsibilities. Zagor must act quickly, knowing that his determination to protect others may itself be part of his enemies’ calculations.

Moreno Burattini constructs a crime thriller driven by planning, manipulation and concealed motives. Mortimer’s ability to anticipate reactions turns the confrontation into a battle of wits, while the Weaver’s involvement makes the relationships between the players harder to interpret. A race against time and deceptive appearances sustain the episode’s suspense.

Marco Verni illustrates the investigation and action sequences. This is the middle instalment of the three-part storyline begun in Paukova mreža. The concluding confrontation follows in Ludens #144, Zagor protiv Krojača.
