Po mnogim svojim osobinama i odlikama, Gradić Peyton sa Povratkom u gradić Peyton podsjeća i pandan je klošmerskoj trilogiji francuskog pisca Gabriela Chevaliera.

Grace Metalious nije profesionalni pisac. Kad je napisala svoju kroniku o Peytonu bila je obična domaćica, imala je tridesetidvije godine, troje djece i bila rastavljena žena učitelja. Nakon objavljivanja ovih svojih djela prognana je iz svoga rodnog grada, rastavljeni muž joj je otpušten iz službe, a poduzete su i druge diskriminacione mjere. Otišla je u New York gdje je i umrla koncem 1968. godine.
