The Girl with Green Eyes is a collection of short stories by Milica Jakovljević Mir-Jam in which the author depicts the everyday life of Serbian bourgeois society between the two world wars through a series of independent love stories. Instead of a single plot and permanent characters, each novella brings new heroines and heroes, different life circumstances, and emotional and moral dilemmas that shape their destinies.

At the center of the stories are young women who are trying to harmonize their own feelings with the expectations of their families and society. Their relationships develop through encounters, engagements, misunderstandings, love disappointments, and new acquaintances, with the author exploring themes of trust, loyalty, social reputation, and freedom to choose a marriage partner. The male characters are depicted as carriers of different values ​​– from romantic idealists to opportunists and careerists – which further emphasizes the character differences between the protagonists.

The special value of the collection is not in the dramatic plots, but in the faithful depiction of urban everyday life, social customs, and the position of women in the period of modernization. Mir-Jam describes salon life, summer resorts, family relationships, and civic morality with great psychological subtlety, creating a gallery of convincing characters whose love and life dilemmas are universal.
