Gospodo porotnici: Deset velikih sudskih slučajeva iz historije zločina

Hans Habe

"Gentlemen of the Jury" by Hans Habe presents ten famous court cases of the 20th century, depicting the course of investigations, trials and motives for crimes, as well as the relationship between justice, politics and public opinion.

Gentlemen of the Jury: Ten Great Court Cases from the History of Crime by Hans Habe is a non-fiction work in which the author analyzes ten real criminal trials that marked the 20th century. The book chronologically presents real crimes – from the event itself, through the police investigation and evidence collection, to the court proceedings and the verdict. Special attention is paid to the motives of the perpetrators, the work of the investigators, the role of lawyers and prosecutors, and the influence of the media and the public on the course of the trial.

Hans Habe, an Austro-Hungarian journalist and writer of Jewish origin, served in the US Army after fleeing Nazism, and after World War II he participated in the restoration of the democratic press in Germany as one of the editors of the newspaper Neue Zeitung. In his works, he often warned about Nazi crimes, the danger of totalitarianism, and the need to confront the past.

Due to Habe's extensive journalistic experience, each case is presented like an investigative report, connecting legal facts with social and political circumstances. The book is not only an overview of known crimes, but also an analysis of the functioning of the judiciary, human psychology and individual responsibility. The main message of the work is that the truth can only be reached through impartial investigation, critical thinking and respect for justice, regardless of political or social pressures.
