Jojo Moyes

"Your Lover's Last Letter" (2012) by Jojo Moyes is a moving romance novel about a passionate and forbidden love in the 1960s and the journalist who, decades later, uncovers its secrets.

"Your Lover's Last Letter" is an extremely successful and emotionally powerful novel by British author Jojo Moyes, published in Croatian translation in 2012. The story skillfully intertwines two timelines and two destinies connected by a forgotten, passionate love letter. The first story is set in 1960 and follows Jennifer Stirling, the wife of a wealthy businessman who wakes up in hospital after a serious car accident with no memory of her life. As she struggles with memory loss and an insensitive marriage, she finds hidden letters and realizes that she was deeply in love with a mysterious man nicknamed "B", for whom she was willing to risk everything. The second story takes us to London in 2003, where young journalist Ellie Haworth accidentally stumbles upon one of these letters in a newspaper archive. Her own entangled in a complicated relationship with a married man, Ellie becomes obsessed with uncovering the fate of two lovers from the past. Through the motif of lost and rediscovered letters, Jojo Moyes builds a touching story about missed opportunities, social conventions, but also the unwavering power of true love. The novel was awarded the prestigious Romantic Novel of the Year award.
