Zapadno od Pecosa

Zapadno od Pecosa

Zane Grey

One of Grey's most romantic and suspenseful novels – an ode to the prairie, disguise, and a love stronger than all laws.

After the Civil War, young Terrill Lambeth and her father, the devastated Colonel Lambeth, leave Louisiana and head for Texas. On the way, they are attacked by bandits; their father is seriously wounded, and Rill (as everyone calls her) buries him in the desert and continues her journey disguised as a boy - with a short haircut and wearing men's clothing.

On the west bank of the Pecos River, she encounters cowboy Pecos Smith, a mysterious gunslinger feared by everyone. Pecos is actually a wealthy Louisiana rancher in disguise who is looking for a missing Lambeth girl. Not recognizing her, he takes the "boy" Rill as his assistant and takes him to his huge ranch.

While Rill keeps his gender a secret, a passionate love is born between them. In the background, a war with bandits and cattle rustlers rages, and the greatest threat is the cruel bandit Sambo Heeslip. In the final showdown at the Pecos Gorge, Rill removes his mask, Pecos proves himself to be the true gentleman of the West, and the desert becomes their kingdom.
