Crnci u Firenci

Crnci u Firenci

Vedrana Rudan

Portraying a family from Rijeka that has a hard time coping with Croatian reality, and not forgiving any of its members' flaws or weaknesses, Vedrana Rudan told a disturbing story.

The characters in the novel themselves present their own version of personal and family drama: the father is a volunteer in the Homeland War with a diagnosis of PTSD; the mother works as a domestic worker in Italy and has sex with her boss so that she can pay for her son's education in the USA; the daughter is pregnant and is considering an abortion; the son has returned from the USA, where he left his wife and child because he cannot live without the Croatian sunset; the grandmother is bitter because she is convinced that everyone would rather she were gone...

And there are two fetuses to whom Vedrana Rudan also gave a voice and made them fight for survival even before birth.
