Beli Očnjak

Jack London

White Fang follows the life of a wolf hybrid who gradually discovers trust and affection from the wilds of Alaska, through cruel people and dog fights, until he finds safety and love in a home that finally restores his place among the living.

White Fang by Jack London is a novel about the struggle for survival, identity and belonging, told from the perspective of an animal – a wolf hybrid born in the harsh wilderness of the north. At the beginning of his life, White Fang only knows the law of the strongest: cold, hunger, danger and the constant tension of life in the wilderness. His world changes when people capture him and take him to an Indian camp. There, he learns for the first time the power relationship between man and animal, learns obedience and develops a distrust of everything human.

The greatest trauma comes when he falls into the hands of Angry Dog, a cruel man who turns him into a fighting dog. Through systematic torture and coercion, White Fang becomes ruthless, wild and aggressive, a creature that knows only violence. Fights, fear and pain turn him into an almost pure weapon, devoid of tenderness and trust. But his life turns upside down when he is saved by Weedon Scott, a man who shows him patience and warmth that he has never known.

Through a slow but profound process of domestication, White Fang discovers a new kind of relationship: attachment, loyalty, and peace. He leaves behind a world of fighting and brutality and enters a more peaceful life on Scott's estate, where he learns to live in harmony with people and other animals. The climax of his moral transformation comes when he bravely defends Scott's family, confirming that his heart, which had been shackled by violence for years, has found warmth again.

White Fang combines adventure, psychological depth, and powerful symbolism. The novel explores the boundary between nature and civilization, the possibility of change, and the power of kindness that can transform even the most deeply wounded souls.
