Géza Gárdonyi

The novel "God's Servants" (Hungarian: Isten rabjai) is a historical work by Hungarian writer Géze Gárdonyi, published in 1911.

Set in the 13th century, the novel follows the life of Margareta Arpadović, daughter of the Hungarian-Croatian king Bela IV. After her father vowed to God that if he saved the country from the Mongols, he would dedicate his daughter to monastic life, Margareta is sent to a Dominican convent. Despite her own desires and inner struggles, Margareta accepts her fate and becomes a symbol of spiritual dedication and sacrifice. The novel explores themes of faith, duty, and personal freedom, presenting a deep psychological analysis of the main character in the context of medieval society.
