Penelopeja: Mit o Penelopi i Odiseju

Penelope. Immortalized in legend and myth as the faithful wife of the famous Odysseus who silently weaves, unravels and weaves again while awaiting her husband's return. In Margaret Atwood's short novel, Penelope wanders through the underworld and spins a different yarn: her side of the story - a tale of lust, greed and murder. It is an excellent story about Penelope's twenty years of waiting, two decades of rejecting suitors, ruling the country, managing the household and raising her son.

Penelope is a unique, fun and challenging variation on a myth we only thought we knew. Although this short novel will appeal to readers who do not know the details of Homer's more famous story, the two versions enhance each other in many ways. The sensitive and humane portrait of Penelope will inspire many readers to look again at Homer's Odyssey with greater pleasure because, as we know, myths are universal and eternal stories in which our lives are mirrored and shaped - they explore our desires, fears and longings and offer us narratives that remind us what it means to be human.
