Vernon Bog Little
For this novel, DBC Pierre received the most prestigious British literary prize, the "Man Booker" in 2003.
A 21st century comedy in the presence of death. Despite the dark prison atmosphere in which the plot takes place – the main character, fifteen-year-old Vernon Gregory Little, is suspected of being an accomplice in a mass murder at his school, committed by his best friend, the late Jesus Navarro – this is an unusually humorous novel. Parodying social stereotypes from the perspective of a misunderstood adolescent, on the one hand, and playing with street speech and colloquialisms, on the other hand, which in the mouth of a rebellious teenager (and also the narrator) become elements of utter linguistic mischief, the author has created an exceptionally comic prose about the triumph of injustice and absurdity.
