Tomas King, delom Čiroki, delom Grk, radnju u ovom romanu gradi kroz priču o dečaku Tekumseu, koji sa svojim rođakom Lumom i psom Vojnikom obično letnjim danima prolazi kroz rezervat, između gradova Istine i Sjajne vode.

Radnju pokreće misterija događaja na reci, kada su videli da se davi žena kojoj nisu mogli pomoći. Pored toga, Tekumse pokušava da otkrije porodične tajne i pomiri svoje roditelje. Priča ima mnogo romantičnih, ali i baladičnih epizoda. Roman je pun dijaloga, čudesnih događaja, crnog humora i živih istina, primamljivo je i sočno štivo. Prevodioci su sva imena u romanu preveli na hrvatski jezik, što će čitaocu još više približiti svet starosedelaca i zabačenih krajeva Kanade.
