„Dosje“ i druge priče

„Dosje“ i druge priče

Nikola Đuretić

If we know how to listen, it will whisper to us how complicated life is. No other recommendations are needed for this prose by Đuretić.

The list of awards that Nikola Đuretić has received for his rich and diverse work is long. However, one stands out. Like all important things in life, it is simple and in its simplicity is important. His work itself is an award in itself, for him, for his readers first and foremost. A skillful pen, a flexible sentence, a convincing description, a suggestive atmosphere, do not need pathetic themes, that is, this writer is able to make an important and great theme out of every motive. A few words, one might say – a light touch, but a nuance that hits exactly what is characteristic of the hero, the surroundings, the event – that is the characteristic of a thorough storyteller. Đuretić's character does not have to be, and is not destined to be, of gigantic dimensions, and yet, it is important exactly as it is, growing in our eyes into a personality without which we would be poorer in our reading experience, and thus in our lives. With the sensibility of a modern prose writer, resourceful in storytelling whose secrets he deeply knows, Đuretić's pen naturally follows both nostalgic and difficult tales, never leaving us indifferent. No matter what impression his stories may make on us, and they are often both dramatic and sad, one thing is certain, we will not be indifferent for a single moment.
