Bosonogo djetinjstvo

Bosonogo djetinjstvo

Branko Ćopić

The work brings together a gallery of colorful characters – family members, village neighbors, teachers, friends – who shape Ćopić's childish view of the world.

The main character is the boy Branko himself, curious, imaginative and often prone to mischief. Through his eyes, the reader gets to know rural life at the beginning of the 20th century: games in the meadows, school incidents and accidents, the relationship with adults, strict but fair rural customs, as well as the warmth of the family home. The stories alternate between humor and sadness: from humorous situations with his uncle and peers, to feelings of poverty, growing up and the first life lessons. Despite the difficult conditions, the work exudes optimism and warmth, emphasizing the beauty of a simple childhood spent in nature and togetherness.
