Papa među nama / il papa tra noi pope among us

The trilingual photo-monograph "Papa među nama / Il Papa tra noi / Pope Among Us," published in 2003, is a significant commemorative edition dedicated to the 100th apostolic journey—and the third historic pastoral visit—of Pope John Paul II to Croatia (Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Osijek, Đakovo, and Zadar). This comprehensive and visually striking book serves as a lasting record of the days from June 5 to 9, 2003—a period that left a profound mark on recent Croatian history and the spiritual life of the nation. Through a rich selection of journalistic and artistic photographs, the monograph chronicles the Pope’s visit, covering solemn Eucharistic celebrations, encounters with young people, the beatification of Marija Petković in Dubrovnik, and meetings with state and church leaders. The text—presented in parallel columns in Croatian, Italian, and English—includes the Pope’s addresses, homilies, and messages to the Croatian faithful, either in full or in selected excerpts, emphasizing themes such as hope, family, forgiveness, and the preservation of Christian identity. This 2003 edition holds exceptional documentary, historical, and cultural value. It serves as an enduring testament to the close bond between John Paul II and Croatia, and stands as a cherished memento for all who participated in this historic event.
