Édouard Schuré
Eduard (Édouard) Schuré (January 21, 1841 in Strasbourg – April 7, 1929 in Paris) was a French philosopher, poet, playwright, novelist, music critic and publicist of esoteric literature.
Schuré is certainly best known for his occult writings, but he also became famous for his musical, literary-historical and aesthetic treatises. He was a poet, playwright and novelist. "The Evolution of the Godhead" was published in 1912, and the subtitle "From the Sphinx to the Christ" indicates that it is the first part, the second part (which remained unwritten) was supposed to present the esoteric tradition from Christ to Lucifer.
The concept of "The Evolution of the Godhead" is based on the author's view of how humanity developed under the influence of cosmic forces. In his account he moved from planetary evolution through Atlantis and the Atlanteans, the mysteries of India, the stages of the solar logos, Hellenism, all the way to considerations of the cosmic Christ and the historical Christ. The book is dedicated to Rudolf Steiner, whom Schure quotes frequently and respectfully.
