Krijesnice

Krijesnice

Stanislav Femenić

A collection of children's poetry published in 1973 (first edition, later 1975, 1977, 1980, 1982). Stanislav Femenić, a Croatian poet, storyteller and physician (1924–2012), dedicated most of his work to children and young people.

Femenić's poetry, including Krijesnice, is characterized by simplicity, cheerfulness, rhythm and humorous playfulness, inspired by the works of Grigor Vitez. The collection is part of Femenić's oeuvre that also includes other well-known titles such as Puž na ljetovanju, Trči, trči Trčimir and Idi pa vidi.

Krijesnice contains short, humorous poems intended for children, often with motifs from nature, animal and plant life, and children's everyday life. The poems are filled with warmth, imagination and simple verses that easily attract young readers. Femenić uses personification, giving animals and natural phenomena human characteristics, which stimulates children's creativity and imagination. His language is playful, with an emphasis on rhythm and rhyme, which makes the poems suitable for reading aloud and learning by heart. The collection conveys messages about joy, friendship and the beauty of the world seen through children's eyes, often with humorous anecdotes and unexpected twists.

Femenić's poetry in Krijesnice leaves an impression of lightness and carefreeness, encouraging children to reflect and play. The work has been included in school curricula and anthologies of children's literature, and remains a favorite among generations.
