Tajna ljubav
The fifth installment in the famous Cynster family saga, a romantic thriller set in 1820s London. Stephanie Laurens combines adventure, secrets and steamy scenes in a story of forbidden attraction between childhood friends who become lovers.
The main character, Lady Alathea Morwellan, the intelligent and independent mistress of Morwellan Park, is facing financial disaster: her father, an eccentric botanist, has squandered the family fortune on travel and exploration. To save the estate and her family (including her sister and brother), Alathea disguises herself as a mysterious widow wearing a black veil and seeks help from Gabriel Cynster - an adventurer and member of the powerful Cynster family, known for their dangerous exploits and seduction. Gabriel, the third son of the earl, is looking for excitement in a life full of boredom; he cannot refuse the enigmatic lady who radiates strength and desperation.
Their collaboration begins with an agreement: for every key piece of information about the theft of precious botanical specimens (which are key to the family secret), Alathea must reward him with a kiss. Encounters in the shadows of London streets and parks escalate: kisses become passionate embraces, and the hostility they feel - raised as brother and sister since childhood, but over the years a tension and attraction have developed - turns into lust. Alathea struggles with remorse, knowing that Gabriel is the only man who has always been close to her, but also a challenge. He, unaware of her identity, falls under the spell of the "widow", revealing the vulnerability behind his facade of seductress.
The plot is intertwined with a criminal conspiracy: the theft of samples leads to persecution, false leads and dangerous encounters with con artists. Alathea's family, including sister Mary and brother Freddie, add humor and warmth, while the Cynsters - like brother Vaux - provide support. Through witty dialogue and tense escapes, Laurens explores themes of forbidden love, female independence and healing through vulnerability.
