U rovovima interpretacija: Strategija i tragedija nelegitimnog čitanja

Nebojša Lujanović

The book by Split writer and political scientist Nebojša Lujanović (born 1981 in Novi Travnik) is an intriguing polemic against the ideological abuses of Ivo Andrić, especially the nationalistic readings of his work from the Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian

Inspired by the numerous controversies surrounding the Nobel Prize, Lujanović analyzes "illegitimate reading" as a strategy of power: how Andrić's "Travnička hronika" or "Na Drini ćuprija" are transformed into weapons of ethnic myths - from accusations of hatred towards Muslims, to Ustasha collaborationism and partisan sanctity.

Through essayistic fragments, the author exposes the tragedy: the literary text is stretched to the point of bursting, losing its authenticity in political trenches. Examples include parodies of "Bosniak intellectuals" who seek "stomach" for Andrić's "crimes", or Serbian narratives about a "traitor". Lujanović, without pathos, calls for a legitimate reading - aesthetic and humanistic - where Andrić is seen as a bridge, not a wall.

The work has a strong polemical charge: it is a critique of nationalism, but also a defense of literature against ideology. Praised by Ivan Lovrenović as "extraordinary", relevant for the analysis of Balkan divisions.
