Pančatantra = Tantrakhjajika : u najstarijoj sačuvanoj recenziji

Zdravka Matišić

The Panchatantra is a work of classical Sanskrit literature written between the 3rd and 5th centuries CE. According to preserved manuscripts and numerous adaptations, the work later took the form of a popular folk book.

The oldest surviving review of the Tantrakhjajika, the translation of which from Sanskrit is published in this Croatian edition, indicates that the text was very demanding in its original form. The title Panchatantra appears in most of the younger editions and indicates the formal structure – the Pentateuch. The title Tantrakhjajika refers to the content – the doctrine of what is essential in the art of governing a state. The translation is based on the critical edition of Tantrakhjajika prepared by Johannes Hertel and printed as Volume XIV of the Harvard Oriental Series in 1925.
