Maultaschi Goreng: Muntere Geschichten aus dem schwäbischen Alltag

Maultaschi Goreng: Muntere Geschichten aus dem schwäbischen Alltag

Olaf Nägele

In 30 humorous stories, Olaf Nägele satirically and lovingly portrays the everyday life of the Swabians – from strange habits, dialects to encounters with "newcomers". An entertaining panorama of Swabian everyday life.

The book offers a humorous and ironic look at everyday life in Swabia (Baden-Württemberg), full of local charm, dialect and self-irony. Nägele, born in Esslingen, returns home after several years in Hamburg and observes his compatriots from a distance.

Through bizarre situations, crazy dialogues and humorous observations, he shows typical Swabian reactions: how a Swabian reacts when “Reigschmeckte” (newcomers) drag him on a wine tour, what happens in the “Romance for Everyone” course at the community college, why no one wants to eat “Maultaschi Goreng” (a cross between Swabian mincemeat and Asian fried rice) and a number of other everyday absurd situations.

The author satirically, but always with warmth and love, dissects Swabian stereotypes – thrift, diligence, love of order (“kärchergepflegte Gassen”), attitude towards tradition and encounter with the modern world. The book is full of recognizable characters, witty dialogues in dialect, and mild criticism of local customs, but without any malice.

This is a real treat for fans of regional humor, similar to the works of Loriot or other German satirists, only with a strong Swabian identity. A perfect read for a relaxed read, loud laughter, and recognition of everyday situations.
