Junaci Domovinskog rata #14

Junaci Domovinskog rata #14

Davor Runtić

Davor Runtić's fourteenth book brings the poignant biographies and war journeys of steadfast Croatian defenders who marked the most difficult days of Croatia's defense with their patriotism and sacrifice.

The fourteenth book in the renowned and extensive monographic series "Heroes of the Homeland War" by Davor Runtić brings a new collection of authentic, moving and historically valuable testimonies about Croatian defenders. The author continues his tireless mission of recording individual human destinies, war exploits and family sacrifices, saving from oblivion the names of those who stood on the front lines of defending the homeland in fateful moments.

This volume sheds light in detail on the lives and war paths of a number of prominent individuals and comrades who bore the burden of fighting on various battlefields across Croatia. The book thoroughly documents the biographies of defenders such as Ivan Modrić, Ive Lela, Ivica Kasalo - Kiso, Zvonimir Kovačić - Ličo, Željko Dragašević and Antun Šimić - Baćo. Runtić also brings moving accounts of the courage of Tomislav Šestan, Dragutin Berghofer, Gordan Kiš - Kilo and Igor Koch - Čičak, whose contributions to the defense left a deep mark on war history.

A special place in the book is occupied by stories about fighters such as Ivan Vučković, Stipe Kulić and Luka Hrgović, as well as poignant testimonies about brothers or relatives on the battlefield, such as Ivica and Petar Rušnov. The author also discusses the war paths of Željko Štefančić and Dinko Sabljić, describing their suffering, combat missions, time in captivity or tragic deaths that forever marked their families and comrades.

Through a recognizable documentary approach, based on direct interviews, family memories and official war records, Davor Runtić gives the reader not only dry military data, but also a deep insight into the psychological and emotional strength of the Croatian soldier. Book 14 represents an invaluable source for the study of modern Croatian history and a dignified monument to the heroes whose patriotism and selflessness remain a lasting role model and foundation of the independent Republic of Croatia.
