Sociologija I-II
This seminal work by French sociologist Georges Gurvitch systematically presents the theoretical foundations, methods, and branches of sociology, defining social reality through deep-seated layers and total social phenomena.
The two-volume work Sociology (edited by Georges Gurvitch) presents a comprehensive overview and theoretical synthesis of sociological thought in the middle of the 20th century. The first part of the work deals with epistemological problems, the history of sociology and the relationship of sociology to other sciences (such as history, psychology and economics), emphasizing its autonomy and specific subject of study.
The second part, written entirely by Gurvitch himself, presents his original theoretical conception. The central place is occupied by the definition of sociology as an empirical science of total social phenomena. Gurvitch does not observe social reality one-dimensionally, but divides it into deep layers or "floors" - from microstructures, collective behaviors, states and attitudes, through organized systems, all the way to global societies.
He pays special attention to a pluralistic approach, rejecting one-sided reductionist theories that reduce social life to only one factor (such as economics or biology). Instead, it develops a complex typology of social groups, classes and global societies and analyzes the dynamics of social control and different forms of sociability. The work represents a key contribution to the French sociological school and has deeply marked the development of contemporary general sociology.
The book consists of two volumes.
