Engleski pacijent

Michael Ondaatje

An abandoned villa in Tuscany, turned into an Allied hospital at the end of the Second World War, becomes a place where the destinies of the main characters of this layered, poetic novel of a mosaic structure touch and intertwine.

By introducing different narrators - the main characters, which are the nurse Hana, the unidentified wounded "English patient", the enigmatic Italian Caravaggio, and the Indian Kip, a miner in the British army - and their frequent changes, crossing the boundaries of space and time, the author successfully develops a story about the most intimate and the most refined human feelings.
