Moj život

Moj život

Richard Wagner

The autobiography of the German composer, reformer of modern opera, and one of the most revered artists of the 19th century. This deeply personal work covers Wagner's childhood, artistic development, and key moments up to 1864.

Written at the request of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the work reveals Wagner's inner struggle, ambitions, disappointments, and complex relationship with society and his contemporaries.

Wagner describes in detail his musical beginnings, the influence of German literature and philosophy (especially Schopenhauer), and his political activity – especially during the revolution of 1848–1849, which forced him into exile. A key theme is the development of the idea of "music drama", culminating in works such as Tristan und Isolde, Der Ring des Nibelungen, and Parsifal. Wagner speaks candidly about his relationships, including his marriage to Minna Planer and his love for Cosima Liszt (his later wife). The work often portrays Wagner as a genius misunderstood in his time, with a pronounced critical tone towards the music scene of Europe at the time.

"Mein Ziege" is not only a musical autobiography, but also a mirror of his personality – impulsive, passionate, and controversial. Despite its subjective view, the book offers valuable insight into the mind of one of the most influential composers of Romanticism.
