Rudyard Kipling

Of all Kipling's books, The Jungle Book is the most beloved by children around the world. It published two of Kipling's novels, The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book, which were also very successful and served as the basis for the films of the same n

The Jungle Book is a collection of short stories published in 1894 and 1895, inspired by Kipling's childhood in India. The main character is Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. Along with the bear Baloo, the panther Bagheera, and the python Kaa, Mowgli learns the Law of the Jungle, facing dangers such as the tiger Shere Khan.

The plot follows Mowgli's upbringing. In the story "Mowgli's Brothers", the wolf Raksha finds the abandoned boy and protects him from Shere Khan, who is hunting humans, violating the law of the jungle. Baloo and Bagheera teach Mowgli wisdom, hunting, and survival. In "Kaa's Hunt", the Bandar-log monkeys kidnap Mowgli, wanting him as their leader, but he realizes their irresponsibility. Kaa, Baloo, and Bagheera rescue him from the Cold Lairs. In "Tiger! Tiger!", Mowgli, exiled from the pack, comes to a village, where he learns about human customs, but is persecuted by the villagers for a conflict with the hunter Buldeo. With the help of wolves and fire, Mowgli defeats Shere Khan, but decides to live a solitary life.

The work explores themes of friendship, courage and belonging, using anthropomorphic animals as allegories of human values. Kipling's prose, enriched with illustrations by Kristina Petruša, emphasizes moral lessons and the charms of the jungle. This edition is adapted for young readers, with a methodological treatment for school and is used as reading material for the 4th grade of elementary school.
